Spectacular metal knight statue by L. Cerretini, 1978 - a life-size, almost theatrical eye-catcher for any Wunderkammer or designer interior. This standing knight statue, nearly two metres tall, is constructed of thin sheet metal, wire and perforated elements, with a flamboyant helmet crest, long spear and richly decorated shield.

Origin & meaning
The sculpture is signed on the back of the “skirt armour” with L. Cerretini ’78, and is most likely Italian-made. Rather than historical armour, this is a free, artistic interpretation of the medieval knight: expressive, playful and full of fantasy. The helmet has a perforated visor and exuberant curling shapes of metal wire, the shoulders are decorated with fan-like scales, and the shield shows a deeply driven decoration in circles and tendrils. Heat treatment of the metal has created an iridescent patina with shades of bronze, blue and gold that add vibrancy to the image.

This kind of large, signature metal sculpture from the 1970s rarely surfaces. It is exactly the type of object that would not be out of place in a historic Wunderkammer: a curiosity between art, decoration and dream world, evoking immediate conversations. In a modern interior, it works as a statement piece - think a loft, entrance hall, library or gallery-style living room.

Dimensions & condition
The statue has a height of about 198 cm, with a width of about 52 cm and a depth of about 32 cm (including spear and wooden base). It stands firmly on a matching wooden plinth. The metal parts show slight signs of use and age appropriate for a 1978 work, but no disturbing damage; the scrolls, spear and shield are nicely intact. The combination of height, detailing and patina gives it a powerful, almost theatrical appearance.
