Description

Rare Chinese blue-and-white dragon sign with five flying dragons and auspicious mark, symbol of imperial power and abundant good fortune.

This refined porcelain plate (diameter 15.7 cm) displays five writhing dragons flying between clouds. In Chinese culture, the number five is associated with the emperor and cosmic harmony, while dragons symbolise power, prosperity and rain. Together, they form a powerful symbol of good luck.

On the back is the auspicious mark 福滿堂 (Fu Man Tang), meaning 'Hall of abundant happiness'. Such lucky signs were popular in the 19th century and reinforce the symbolic value of this sign.
