Origin & meaning
The Hemis kachina is one of the most beloved and recognisable figures within the Hopi tradition in Arizona. He is closely associated with the Niman ceremony (Home-Going Dance), which celebrates the harvest and return of the kachinas. The fan headdress symbolises rain clouds and abundance, representing fertility and blessing. The movable arms also make this specimen extra lively.
